Moving Element

Final Concept

Project 3

Mash-up

Artistic simulation of hair would be a dramatic piece of work if I can believe that techno-jumble. We’ll be able to combine academic knowledge from straight to curly and an enormous number of developmental aspects of play with the brick itself.
Moving from shock to awe we impose an upper limit on the stretch whose proportions are vaguely neo-classical. Forces can cause instabilities but at the same time will be an educational and inspirational experience among the mass entrants.
Initially designed to deal with the challenges of the buildings that now populate the site, we apply the same smoothing to the place where people can enjoy a dramatic piece of work.
An environmental marvel, an abstraction and condensation; woven into the situation in order to produce a plausible, visually appealing result.

Concepts

Olson Kundig

1. Architecture is the intersection between the poetic and the rational
2. Contradictory objectives; open to environment, yet closed to create privacy
3. A space is not constrained by area inside the building, a space is shaped by it
4. Architecture is a movement and it transforms its surroundings
5. References homes as primitive places
6. Architecture must be as intimate as a family member

Buckminster Fuller

1. There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you its going to be a butterfly
2. Love is metaphysical gravity
3. Ideals of ephemeralisation; “doing more and more with less and less until you can do everything with nothing”
4. Simplicity is the true measure of complexity
5. Reorganising the environment for prosperity
6. “Nature is trying very hard to make us succeed, but nature does not depend on us. We are not the only experiment.”

This animation is great graphical quality but took 8 hours to render!
As the file is large, it cannot be added to my blog.

Original Photo of Something Beautiful

Dawes Point looking north towards Blue Point Tower
This photo was taken approximately two years ago the ferry passed just at the right time. The setting sun brings out the detail of the building and I especially like the shadow of the stair case at the right. This image was taken on a Canon digital camera and edited in Camera Raw to sharpen and enhance the image.

Great Architecture

‘Holyrood’ (formerly City Bank and ‘Illyria’) c1873
Architects: George & Ralph Mansfield

‘Holyrood’ (formerly ‘Illyria’) c1873 in Strathfield on the grounds of Santa Sabina College has incredible workmanship but what makes it interesting is its context.

Originally it was the first City Bank in Pitt St, Sydney. October 2, 1890, fire consumed the block bounded by Moore, Pitt and Castlereagh Sts and Hosking Place. The bank was destroyed and the stone facade was purchased by Charles Hoskins who removed it stone by stone to The Boulevarde, Strathfield and reassembled to form the front of his residence.

Best Piece of Work Pre-UNSW

Simmer on the Bay

The following project was a proposed restaurant to activate the eastern area of the Piers on Hickson Rd. Recently, the NSW Government Architect released plans to attract more people to this area and take advantage of the idyllic setting. There are a number of arts based businesses and activities in the vicinity, encompassing a wide demographic and the restaurant needed to appeal not only on decor but on pricing as well. The project was developed over time to include a concept, sales pitch, project management, a marketing plan and a business plan as well as a site analysis.
